About

Less legs, bigger body,
more faces

Migros' success story is closely linked to its own production of goods. With this concept, it was possible to have better prices than all other shops and to have a secure source of sufficient products.
While the connections of some manufacturers to M-Industry and thus to Migros are quite clear, other connections are not so obvious. Over time, more and more companies have been bought up by Migros - sometimes they remain independent and sometimes they are integrated into existing parts of the Migros universe.
With the aim of getting more efficient processing and distribution chains, new production sites have to become bigger so that synergies can be used. Therefore, parts that were previously spread all over the country will be consolidated in one place. Migros is of course not the only one following this strategy. Due to its structuring into regional cooperatives, it is also relatively difficult for them to rebuild the internal structure.
Coop has taken big steps in this direction in recent years, for example with the construction of the new distribution centre in Schaffisheim between 2012 and 2015, the largest private construction site in Switzerland at that time. In addition to the distribution of goods, the production of bread was centred here.
