Unteraffoltern was planed in the sixites and altered various times. It is located at the border to agricultural land and the idea of Le'Corbusier was adoptet for the two Isengrind buildings. In 1963 an article was published in Bauen, Wohnen, Leben stating:
«The following facilities will be located there: small department stores', supermarket and grocery shop, butcher's, bakery, confectioner's, pharmacy, drugstore, household, hardware, shoe shop, ladies' and men's lingerie, hairdresser, perfumery, stationery, bookshop, radio and electrical shop, 4 to 5 smaller shops of various branches, restaurant, tea room, underground parking spaces with service station.»
Unteraffoltern III was build in 1981, planned by Jakob Zweifel with Heinrich Strickler and Hans Ulrich Glauser. It is a listed building wita central circulation and and a high valued exterior space.
In the end of the 80s the municipality implementet one of the first comunal gardens, experimenting with the comunal aspect of gardening in pilot projects:
Gardening work contributes towards making the residents communicate with one another, develop a community and identify themselves with their residential environment. The City of Zurich promotes the construction of housing estate gardens.

Today Unteraffoltern is at the border of Housing and Farming. The research center, Reckenholz, usual farmers, comunity suported agriculture as «Meh als Gmüs» and a resisisting goat farmer are all in walking distance.
